The intention of this course is to help native speakers and ESOL learners who have successfully completed the E3 Functional Skills qualifications (in the past year) but are not yet ready to join an English Functional Skills course at Level 1, to build confidence and knowledge to a proficient level. To join this course, you must sit an Initial Assessment so you can study at the right level. On this course, you will work to build on the skills you acquired paying special attention to improving writing and reading skills. By the end of this course, you will have improved your spelling, grammar and punctuation to write longer texts such as articles and reports which meet the assessment criteria at Functional Skills Level 1. You will be able to read texts that are more complex, infer meaning using organisational features and other strategies to extract information and details. You will be able to apply the skills you learn in the workplace and in other real-life situations as well as to prepare for a Functional Skills course. Attending this course will also give you the opportunity to meet other people and improve your self-confidence which is beneficial for good mental wellbeing.
