The intention of this course is to help you gain a qualification in Functional Skills English. You must be a native English speaker to join this course or an ESOL learner who has as successfully completed the Functional Skills E3 programme and be ready to work commit to 4 hours of independent study weekly. On this Level 1 course, you will develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills which will enable you to progress to the next level if you pass your exams and the teacher recommends you for the next level. This course is designed to help you improve your Speak and Listen skills to identify relevant information and arguments in presentations and discussions, respond appropriately to detailed questions, communicate your ideas and use supporting evidence to give opinions clearly and logically. You will read to understand main points, details and specialist words, recognise language and textual features and use reference materials, organisational and structural features to locate information. You will write a range of texts using complex sentences create blogs, reports and stories, use a range of punctuation, correct grammar and spelling at Level 1 to write accurate, coherent texts with appropriate detail and length to suit the purpose and audience. You will be able to apply the skills you learn in the workplace and in other real-life situations. Attending this course will also give you the opportunity to meet other people and improve your self-confidence which is beneficial for good mental wellbeing.
