This is a non-accredited course. On successful completion, you will gain an in-house college certificate of achievement. This course provides skills for the following Fashion, and Creative Arts and Crafts. You will learn how to use a sewing machine and take accurate measurements using a paper pattern. You will have completed at least one garment of your choice.
• No previous experience or qualification required.
• Entry 3 in reading and writing and have reasonable numeracy skills.
• Smartphone, iPod, or access to a computer.
• Pencil/pen, folder.
• Fabric shears /scissors.
• Fine steel pins and needles.
• Metric tape measure.
• Plain colour fabric

Minimum attendance 90%; positive attitude to learning; to achieve the certificate you will need to submit at least 80% of assignment.

Your teaching and learning will include:
• Basic techniques of sewing machine and stitching.
• Understand Health & Safety requirements.
• Learn how to set-up and use a sewing machine.
• Explore different fabrics and discover which designs suit you best.
• Learn how to make well-fitting clothes for yourself, family or friends.
• Understand how to take accurate measurements.
• Learn about how to sew neat and accurate seams, darts, and hems.
• Find out how to draw paper pattern, and how to create paper patterns from your favourite items of clothing.
• Online learning via Google Classroom.
• Practical tasks.
• Independent learning including research.
• Small and large group discussions

A successful completion of this course will help you to progress onto employment, self-employment or/ and other accredited courses such as Arts and Crafts and Introduction to Enterprise skills, Fashion: other accredited courses in ICT, Maths, English.
